Vernon Dean Smith, the son of Vernie C. and Ellie C. Smith, was born on circa 1929 in Vermont.
Vernon was a Finance Clerk assigned to Company G, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Unsan, North Korea on 1 November 1950 and died while a prisoner on 28 February 1951.
Vernon was survived by his parents and a brother, Dale C. Smith.
Among his awards and decorations is the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, Prisoner of War Medal, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
