Lamar Merrell Langston

Lamar Merrell Livingston, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Langston, was born on 15 October 1929, near Banks, Alabama.

 

He attended Banks schools and graduated from Pike County High School in Brundidge, Alabama on 21 May 1948.

 

On 12 January 1949, Lamar entered the United States Army and received his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  After basic training, he left for St. Louis, Missouri to attend the Army's Finance School.  Upon graduating on 15 July 1949, Lamar was assigned to the 10th Finance Disbursing Section.  Later assignments took him to Fort McCellan, Alabama; Blackstone, Virginia; and Fort Benning, Georgia.  He left for South Korea on 18 September 1950, where he was assigned to the 106th Finance Disbursing Section.  Lamar contracted smallpox and was evacuated to the 3rd Station Hospital at Pusan, South Korea where he died on 30 March 1951.

 

Lamar was survived by his parents; three brothers, Ralph, Lawrence, and Dwight; and two sisters, Mrs. George Ingram and Mrs. Emil Tarden.

 

Among his awards and decorations is the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Korean War Service Medal.
