John Edward Bohnsack

John Edward Bohnsack, the son of Edward E. and Emma Bohnsack, was born on 28 November 1929, in Evansville, Indiana.
A graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville, John attended one year at Lockyear's Business College.
John entered the United States Army in November 1949 and upon graduating from Officer Candidate School, received his commission as a Second Lieutenant. His duty assignments included Germany, where he served for five years, and Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana. While assigned at Fort Benjamin Harrison, he served as Chief of the Control and Processing Division. In April 1967, he was presented a plaque by officers of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) for his work in improving relations between the military and the AFGE. After a short visit with his family in Evansville, John left for Vietnam where he arrived on 3 November 1968. While in Saigon, Vietnam on 15 February 1969, John became ill and was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Lieutenant Colonel John Edward Bohnsack was buried with military honors in Evansville's Oak Hill Cemetery on 25 February 1969.
John was survived by his parents and three children; Debbie, Lisa, and Jay.
Among his awards and decorations is the Army Commendation Medal.
